The Butterfly Effect is a 2004 American science fantasy psychological thriller film starring Ashton Kutcher. The film revolves around the life of Evan Treborn and newfound power that lets him travel to past and present. The Movie centres around the notion that how small initial differences may lead to large unforseen consequences in the long term hence the “buttler fly effect”.The movie is a good watch if you enjoy psychological trillers as the plot is very in-depth , intertwining , filled with lots of character development and will keep you on your feet. The movie is sharp edged in every way and not afraid to show disturbing scenes of molestation, murder, and animal abuse.
It uses the dark history of its character as a jumping point to build an entire life and does a fantastic job of showing how little changes can have sickening consequences for yourself and others.
Brother Bear is a 2003 animated Disney film that people can use to slap in the faces of those irritating folk who think Frozen was the first Disney movie to deal with familial relationships and not centre on romance.
The films follows Kenai, an Inuit boy, who sets out on a mission to kill a bear in revenge for the death of his oldest brother Sitka. Kenai does succeed in killing the bear, but in doing so he angers the Spirits and is transformed into a bear. Kenai embarks on an adventure to become human once again, very reluctantly teaming up with the cutest little bear cub in existence, Koda, and upon occasion two strange brother moose, Rutt and Tuke, all the while trying to dodge his crazed second-oldest brother, Denahi, who wrongly believes that bear-Kenai actually killed human-Kenai. Kenai and Koda journey together to the salmon run and learn to trust each other and care for each other. Literally the whole point of this film is brotherhood, and it is beautiful.
This movie is so much better than Lion King (yeah, I said it). Sure, there's no meerkat and warthog taking care of a spoilt little lion cub, but there are ULTRA CANADIAN MOOSE BROTHERS. Brother Bear is a lot more gut-wrenching than Lion King, and the viewing experience may be more emotional than expected for those who haven't seen it in a while, and its got a great soundtrack to sing along to. So, yeah, go watch Brother Bear and watch the tears pour down, it'll be fun.
Spirited Away is a 2001 animated film directed by Hayao
Miyazaki with voice actors Daveigh Chase, Suzanne Pleshette and Miyu Irino. It is created by studio
Ghibli, who are renowned for creating some of the most popular animated films,
such as Howls Moving Castle.
Spirited Away tells the story of a young girl Chihiro, who in the middle
of her move into the suburbs with her parents happens upon a world of spirits. While
they are there her parents get turned into pigs, her journey brings her to a
bathhouse for the spirits as she sets out to rescue her parents.
While this animated film is directed at a younger audience, I don’t think
you are ever too old to enjoy this film. The animation itself is incredible and
you are introduced to an abundance of quirky and imaginative characters. One of
my favourite things about this film in its uniqueness. You rarely come across
such unusual and delightful characters and stories outside of studio Ghibli. I for
one could not help but get swept up in Miyazaki’s imaginary world of spirits,
witches, monsters and adventure.
The Lion King is a 1994 animated musical adventure film
produced by Disney. The film tells the story of Simba, a
young lion born in a kingdom of lions in Africa, who is to succeed his father,
Mufasa. This makes his uncle Scar the second in line to the throne so he plots
with the Hyenas to kill his brother and nephew. Simba is tricked into thinking
he was responsible for his father’s death so he flees the kingdom. After years,
he is persuaded to return home to challenge Scar and overthrow him.
Many argue that this is Disney’s best-animated film of
all time and I agree. The animation is beautiful and moving, the characters are
wonderful and the songs are incredible. The songs were written by composer
Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice with an original score by Hans Zimmer, and
deserved the awards received – two Academy Awards for its achievement in music.
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to watch The Lion
King Musical at the Capitol Theatre and that was a phenomenal experience. Two
seconds into “Circle of Life” and I had shivers. If the musical returns, I
recommend everyone to watch it. The musical just makes me fall in love with the film all over again. I have a soft spot for musical films.
Source Code is a 2011 French-American science fiction film directed by Duncan Jones, and starring Jake Gyllenhaal which explores concepts relating to feasibility of reality and the way we perceive it. The film centres around U.S. Army Aviation pilot Captain Colter Stevens who is last aware of being on a mission in Afghanistan, wakes up suddenly on a commuter train to Chicago.
Using the "Source Code" experimental device Colter experiences the last eight minutes of another person's life within an alternative timeline in order to foil a future terrorist plot. Sourcecode assumes the juxtaposition of two dimensions: Time and eternity. Time: the dimension in which we live and eternity where all time exists; past, present and future. Source Code intertwining and in-depth plot revolves around the human desire to access eternity in order to change the temporal.
Hot Tub Time Machine is a 2010 science
fiction adventure comedy film starring John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig
Robinson, Clark Duke, Crispin Glover, Lizzy Caplan, Kellee Stewart, Crystal
Lowe, Collette Wolfe and Chevy Chase.
The
film takes place in 2010, with three friends who are evidently going through a
major midlife crisis. When one of the guys, Lou, nearly succeeds at a suicide
attempt by carbon monoxide poisoning, Adam and Nick haul Lou and Adam's nephew
to Kodiak Valley Ski Resort, where they spent the prime nights of their lives.
However the resort is essentially decrepit. To make the experience less
disappointing, they get drunk in a hot tub, during which they spill a Russian
energy drink on the controls, and the next day discover they have awoken in
1986.
At first
the guys are scared about the repercussions of messing with the past but they
soon take advantage of this opportunity to correct everything that went wrong
on the night of Winterfest '86 while they search for a way to return to 2010.
It’s
a fun movie, with some gross, cheap comedy, some hilarious jokes, friendship
and Sebastian Stan, so in the end, everyone wins.
Fight Club was directed by David Fincher in 1999 and stars
Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. This movies is a drama and
is not for the faint hearted. However, if you love a dark and violent story,
this is sure to be right up your alley.
Fight Club tells the story of an insomniac and a soap
salesman who band together to create an underground fight club.You’re sure to have heard plenty of one liners from the film already and it is almost impossible not to be sucked in by the often crazy progressions of this story. It’s use of love, violence and slightly messed up friendships is sure to keep everyone watching.
And while it is easily forgotten when watching the movie, it
has revolutionary undertones. Fight Club makes a very strong statement about
the perils of modern day materialism using violence and narration by the main character
(Edward Norton). The movie is sure to get your blood pumping and mind working in
overdrive, so be sure to get in on the action!
